  5.                     Over a million cases of poisoning
  6.                     occur in the United States each
  7.                     year, most involving young children.

  10.                     PREVENTION of poisoning should be the 
  11.                     concern of every parent with young children.

  13.                     Substances likely to cause poisoning
  14.                     should be kept away from inquiring
  15.                     youngsters!

  17.                     Since various poisons cause different
  18.                     symptoms, and because treatments vary
  19.                     depending upon the substance
  20.                     ingested, the first step in the event
  21.                     of poisoning is to call the local
  22.                     POISON CONTROL CENTER! DO NOT WAIT
  23.                     FOR SYMPTOMS TO OCCUR! IDENTIFY THE
  24.                     NATURE OF THE POISON AND RECEIVE
  25.                     SPECIFIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE
  26.                     PROFESSIONAL STAFF AT THE CENTER!

  28.                     All poisoning victims need to be
  29.                     monitored carefully for signs of
  30.                     shock or impaired consciousness.
  31.  
  32.                     Every household should keep ACTIVATED
  33.                     CHARCOAL & SYRUP OF IPECAC on hand
  34.                     for possible use in poisoning
  35.                     emergencies, however they should
  36.                     not be administered unless instructed
  37.                     by the Poison Control Center
  38.                     staff. Both of these items are
  39.                     readily available, without
  40.                     prescription, at any drug store.
